2025 Goal

2025 Goal

The backstory

I spent years in the gym, 4 years as a personal trainer and then 3 years as a gym manager, I loved it. I actually made some of my best friends in these years, I loved the people I helped and the colleagues but the environment wasn't for me, so I left in 2023.

Leading up to my wedding in 2024 I had something to work towards, something to train for. When that passed there wasn't really anything left anymore, it was all just meaningless. Other than playing and training for rugby which is a maximum of 2 times per week I haven't really pushed myself to do anything strenuous at all and training just to look good is boring, I live in Britain, which means that my t-shirt stays on 99% of the time and the other 1% I'm with my new wife so working hard to get rock hard abs for 1% of my team to me isn't really sensible.

I had to do something about it. That's when it came to me...

The Spartan Races...

For those who do not know and have never heard of them, Spartan have created a variety of obstacle races which encompass not only the history of the Spartan warriors but also the fun and comradery that comes with obstacle racing spanning initially over 3 races;

  1. The Sprint is 5km in length with 20 obstacles to overcome
  2. The Super is 10km in length with 25 obstacles to overcome
  3. The Beast is 21km in length and 30 obstacles to overcome

Either way you have more obstacles than what you do running and as a person who isn't really a lover of long distance running this is pretty ideal for me...

The running and obstacles isn't all though, if you have ever done an obstacle race before you will know that a medal is almost mandatory. But with Spartan, if you complete all 3 of these races within 1 year each of the medals you receive combine together to create one big medal! They call this the "Trifecta"

The child in me can honestly cannot contain himself, its like the MegaZords when the Power Rangers all came together to fight whoever the bad guy was at the time. You know it got real when the theme tune kicked in!!

ANYWAY...

What better goal than to complete a "Trifecta" and what better way to get back into fitness and actually start enjoying getting fit.

The obstacles as you can imagine also centre around the Spartan Warriors with the likes of spear throwing, tree carrying, water dunking, monkey bars plus a load of other things that I don't even know yet. I mean what is not to love?!

Now for the spanner in the works!

A great friend of mine is getting married in 2025 with a stag do also on the way I refuse to miss these things, never mind the fact I am a Groomsman. When I looked at the dates available for the Spartan Races 2 of the weekends fell on his stag do and wedding weekend, selfish of him to not take these into consideration I know but it is what it is. This leaves only 1 weekend available for me to get a trifecta complete within the year and get all 3 medals, personally I don't think I am ready for that.

Now I am fully aware I am probably prolonging the pain, coming up with excuses, you name it. I am fully aware of that. But I am also amazingly competitive, so I want to ensure that I not only get through these races but smash them!

So my 2025 will unfortunately not include a race, but it will include a hell of a lot of training to get into 2026 and possibly smash not 1 but 2 trifecta's and begin a personal goal of competing yearly.

The overall goal

To summarise, 2025 will be all about me, getting fitter, faster and stronger putting my knowledge from my personal training career and any sort of homework I can do in order to get better.

I have even dragged a couple of friends along for the ride who say they will join me.

Truthfully though, this is my ADVENTURE not theirs, so I don't expect them to be there all the way, whilst it would be amazing for them to join me this is a personal goal, something I want and something I AM going to achieve. One things for sure though. I will be forever grateful not matter how much support they are able to give.

Why am I telling you this?

Honestly, I am not too sure, you don't need to know and you don't really need to care about this for me.

Maybe I wanted to show you that adventures don't always have to be about hiking up the worlds tallest mountain or even finding your way around a crazy footbath across the breadth of this Island we call home (Britain).

Maybe, your adventure can be something that you have wanted to do for a little while that your inner child is asking you to do but you think "I have passed that" or "It's a little too late".

Either way, I hope you too find your ADVENTURE...
