What is an Adventure?

I suppose the real question is, "what is your adventure?" I'm going to break it down real slow (not because you need it, but how short would this blog post be if I just got straight to the point).

 

The Dictionary

According to google the definition of an Adventure is this - "an unusual and exciting or daring experience". That is copy and pasted at the time of writing this too... 

What I want everyone reading this to realise however, is how that same definition probably means something different to you than it does me. This is why I am writing this, this is why I started this brand and plan to keep on going with it no matte how successful/ unsuccessful it may be. Adventure Everywear is bigger than just some money in the pocket, it's bigger than myself, it stands for something that everyone can do every day, something that can happen literally everywhere. 

Hence the reason this clothing is for Every Day, Every Journey, Every Wear.... See what I did!

 

The Backstory (sorry, I told you I have to make it a little readable)

Before I give my personal definition of "Adventure", there is something you need to know about me, I am a little philosophical. I like to believe in something, although I am not religious I do like the thought of religion, the idea that there is more something bigger than ourselves. 

With that in mind I really do enjoy to stoicism, a philosophy that in its basic form (From my understanding) is an ongoing bettering of ones self day to day whilst also having a control and understanding of your own thoughts and reactions. 

But if you want to learn more, there are much more practiced and educated people around that you could learn from for that.

However, Aristotle, argued to be an not to be a stoic depending on who you ask, coined the term "Eudemonia". You see, Aristotle didn't strive for happiness (according to my readings and listening's) he believed that happiness is a short term pleasure that can be found within peace. 

Basically when you're sat on the sofa doing naff all you too can feel happy....

But Eudemonia is the happiness that is found within struggle and triumph.

I am glad you're here because now you get to read what my definition of Adventure is....

Whilst thinking and listening to books and things all about the stoics and my new found term of "Eudemonia", it made me realise why I LOVED to adventure so much and why actually most people who I meet really enjoy trying new things and taking themselves out of their comfort zones even if just a little.

This could explain (although not my idea of fun) people enjoy running, marathons, half marathons and even ultra marathons (about 100 miles). They don't enjoy the pain, they don't love the hurt, they love how they get through the pain and the hurt and find true eudemonia, the happiness found within struggle and triumph.

So, onto the bit that is the real reason for this section, my definition of ADVENTURE...

For me, Adventure is the search for eudemonia, which could be heading out and walking down the sometimes unbeaten path, seeing the new areas (well, new to me) and doing things I have never done before. If you have read the about me page then you will know that I believe an adventure can be up a mountain or even in your local city centre.

Either way it is taking yourself out of your comfort zone, even just a little.

What does it mean for you?

I have found some amazing adventures in the centre of Cambridge (stopping with friends living in the area) or scaling mount Snowden with a great friend in the middle of the night to watch the sunrise (we messed up on this trek but come out the other side with amazing stories).

You don't have to be the fittest on earth and don't even have to go far, you just have to go, often you don't have to go looking for the adventure, the adventure finds you! Whether that be in the fields around your home that has that little path you've never been down but always wondered, or that exhibition/ tour in the city next to yours that you've always passed off.

This is why Adventure Everywear is just for that, to take you EVERYWHERE.
